UKRAINIAN STUDIES MATERIAL IN MODERN TEXTBOOKS IN THE LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE EDUCATIONAL BRANCH FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of Ukrainian studies material in textbooks of the language and literature educational branch for primary school and its role in the formation of a nationally conscious personality of a junior schoolchild. Attention is focused on various types of Ukrainian studies content: samples of verbal folklore, Ukrainian phraseology, state and folk symbols, the work of Ukrainian poets and writers, information about historical events, Ukrainian life, customs and traditions, folk crafts, features of clothing, materials about Ukrainian traditional cuisine, the natural environment of Ukraine, unique natural phenomena, materials about outstanding Ukrainians from antiquity to the present day, descriptions of outstanding architectural monuments, etc. The content of textbooks for the 4th grade of author teams under the leadership of M. Vashulenko and I. Bolshakova was analyzed. It was found that the main functions of Ukrainian studies material in the structure of educational publications in the language and literature educational field are cognitive, communicative, educational, developmental, motivational, aesthetic, integrative. The role of Ukrainian studies content of textbooks for primary school as an integral and key component was determined – systematic and purposeful use will ensure not only the acquisition of basic knowledge of language and literature, but will also play a decisive role in the formation of national consciousness, patriotism, linguistic stability and moral qualities of younger schoolchildren. The research aims to draw attention to a more thorough selection of materials for compiling modern publications for primary schools and further improving the content of textbooks in the language and literature educational field, in particular, their thorough filling with Ukrainian studies materials.
