TEACHING SWIMMING TO PRIMARY SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN

Abstract

The article examines the specifics of teaching swimming to primary school-aged children, taking into account their age-related psychophysical development. It analyzes modern approaches to swimming instruction and characterizes effective methods and techniques that help form basic swimming skills, overcome fear of water, and improve general physical fitness. The role of the physical education teacher as an organizer, mentor, and motivational leader in the learning process is highlighted. The importance of emotional contact with children, consideration of individual abilities, and the use of play-based methods at the initial stage of learning is emphasized. Particular attention is given to the need to adapt instructional methods to the conditions of inclusive education, taking into account the specific learning needs of individual students. The effectiveness of modern educational technologies– visualization, video analysis of movements, and sensory integration–is noted. The article explores the significance of cooperation between teachers, parents, and students in achieving maximum effectiveness in developing swimming skills. Special attention is given to creating a psychologically comfortable environment, which is a key factor in successful knowledge and skill acquisition. The article offers summarized practical recommendations for structuring swimming lessons and instructional approaches. It will be useful for educators, trainers, physical education students, and parents interested in fostering a healthy lifestyle among children. A promising direction for future research is the development of adaptive swimming training programs for children with different levels of physical fitness and psycho-emotional states. The issue of improving teaching methodologies for children with special educational needs remains highly relevant, particularly for those with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and musculoskeletal disorders. Further research may focus on studying the effectiveness of digital tools in swimming instruction, including mobile applications, technique video analysis, and the use of virtual and augmented reality.
