Abstract

The article provides a substantive analysis of the problems of English teaching optimization in a higher education institution. The key components of the optimization of foreign language teaching have been defined: increasing purposefulness of teaching, strengthening its motivation, information capacity of the educational content, applying the modern teaching methods, activating the pace of learning activities, developing reflective skills of work, using computers and other latest information technical means of teaching. The paper considers the psychological mechanisms and peculiarities of their functioning in the teaching of foreign language reading: the semantic visual perception, probable prediction, thinking, memory, attention as the psychological mechanisms of professionally oriented reading. Based on the analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature on the topic, the recommendations for the methodology of teaching professionally oriented reading in English at higher education institution have been formulated. It is noted that the student-centered approach in the process of English teaching at a higher education institution is achieved through implementation and use of new information and communication technologies in the learning process, which is determined by the main conceptual direction of higher education; it also provides differentiation and individualization of learning. It is highlighted that the information and communication technologies generates new forms of learning, which contribute to the motivation development, solving educational problems in the context of English teaching, rethinking theoretical and methodological ideas about the process of English learning in the context of educational system adaptation to the features of a specific learning process to optimize it, based on: considering psychological characteristics of students (kind of memory, type of temperament, etc.); providing acceptable psycho-physiological characteristics of the interaction between a learner and computer, the choice of individual working pace and means of presentation of the training material, the implementation of optimal management strategy for the foreign language learning process.
