Abstract

This article examines the values that are a kind of vectors for human behaviour and determine how an individual should act in certain situations of choice, guided by his or her inner views, qualities of character, i.e., by all that is significant for him/her and what has been formed in a personality during the life. M. Rokich's model of value orientations was taken as a basis. According to the model, human values are divided into two large groups: instrumental (predominant behaviors, means of achieving ultimate goals) and terminal values (goals that a person would like to achieve during his/her life). The study of these two groups of value was carried out by teachers, who are, in our opinion, their translators, who carry out their indirect transfer to other participants in the system of professional relations “manman”, namely, students, in the course of their work. In the context of this article, the study of instrumental and terminal values was carried out on the teachers who are at different stages of professional activity. As it is known, the classical model of professional development of the individual includes stages of selection, training, adaptation, and personal realization in professional activities, so we have selected three groups of subjects with different lengths of professional activity, namely: the period of professional adaptation (teachers with working experience up to 5 years); 2 – the period of professional realization (teachers with working experience up to 10 years); 3 – the period of professional stagnation (teachers with more than ten years of experience), and, we have researched their terminal and instrumental values. The method of “Meaningful life orientations of D. Leontiev” has been taken as a diagnostic tool. It allows assessing the source of the meaning of life, which a person can find in the past, present, and future, or at all stages of an individual's life. This technique also identified positive features manifested in human behavior (terminal values) and the goals to which a person aspires (instrumental values).
