ETHICAL STANDARDS FOR THE PUBLICATION OF SCHOLARLY WORKS IN UKRAINIAN JOURNALS OF PHILOLOGY

Abstract

This article examines the ethical standards for publishing scholarly works in Ukrainian journals in general and in philological journals in particular. The texts of documents are analyzed (including the Ukrainian laws “On Academic Integrity” (2022–2025), “On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Activity” (2015), “On Education” (2017), the “Code of Ethics for Scientists of Ukraine” (2009), the “Code of Academic Integrity of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University,” and others), studies by scholars in the field of publication ethics, editorial requirements of leading Ukrainian scientific journals, and recommendations to authors regarding compliance with the norms of research ethics and academic integrity. The general requirements for academic integrity include mandatory citation of sources, proper referencing, the absence of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification of research results, and conflicts of interest, as well as compliance with copyright laws and other regulations. Attention is drawn to the requirements regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in scientific activities and the need to verify all information obtained through AI. Based on the guidelines for authors provided on the page for the series “Literary Studies. Linguistics. Folklore Studies” of the “Bulletin of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv,” specific requirements for philological works have been established, including the formulation of the title, writing of the abstract, structuring and content of the article, the selection of appropriate research methods, the correct use of scientific terms, the description of research results using specific linguistic and stylistic means, their reflection in the conclusions, and the identification of directions for further work on this issue. We see opportunities for further research in a detailed examination of ethical standards for publication at all stages of preparing and writing a scientific paper, editing and post-editing, correcting deficiencies, and recommendations for publication.
