Abstract
In this scholarly study, the theoretical foundations for the formation of the terminology system of crisis medicine are examined. The main focus is placed on the linguistic mechanisms through which clinical knowledge and managerial decisions are codified in high-risk situations. Drawing on a corpus of international regulatory documents, doctrinal texts, glossaries, and instructional sources, it is established that the terminology system of crisis medicine functions as a cross-sectoral system formed through the synergetic interaction of three relatively autonomous subsystems – those of military medicine, tactical medicine (TCCC), and disaster medicine.
It has been established that these subsystems represent complementary loci of medical support: the hospital level (military medicine), pre-hospital care in combat conditions (tactical medicine), and response at the site of an emergency (disaster medicine). The methodological framework of the study is based on the combination of the terminological analysis method with three interrelated interpretative dimensions: structural (the description of dominant term-formation models), semantic (the identification of leading thematic and conceptual groups), and pragmatic-discursive (the clarification of how terms function in normative-doctrinal contexts of crisis response, with the application of critical discourse analysis tools to reveal regulatory codification strategies). The analysis conducted within these dimensions has demonstrated that the respective terminologies represent clinical conditions, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, evacuation processes and their logistics, infection control measures, resource and documentation support, as well as protocol-doctrinal action algorithms, thereby ensuring manageability and the unification of practices in high-risk situations.
The results of the analysis made it possible to conceptually distinguish between the notions of a terminology system and terminology within the field under study: the terminology system of crisis medicine is interpreted as a macro-level, relatively autonomous, and open system, whereas the terminology of crisis medicine constitutes its integral component that ensures the verbalization and normative fixation of clinical knowledge, combat experience, and managerial decisions in the form of terms, protocols, doctrinal provisions, and educational standards.
