Abstract
The article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the application of Deep Zoom and OpenSeadragon technologies in the context of digital representation of Ukrainian painting of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The historical and cultural factors that determined the high artistic evolution of the period are considered, as well as the technical aspects of creating hierarchical images over resolution. Artists of this period focused on two key areas: depicting the realities of Ukrainian life and understanding the national character through the poeticization of nature and tradition. The historical and cultural context influences the artists' experimentation in texture: thick glazes, pasty strokes, combined techniques – all this creates textural complexity for simple fixation by traditional photography, which emphasizes the importance of highly detailed digital representation. The prospects for the use of digital scaled reproductions in museum work, art historical research, and restoration practice are traced. Special attention is paid to the principles of XML structures of DZI files, tile generation mechanisms, as well as integration with web platforms based on the OpenSeadragon library. Deep Zoom and OpenSeadragon technologies open a new level of representation of Ukrainian painting of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Gigapixel images do not allow analyzing texture, strokes, color and compositional solutions with an accuracy unavailable for standard digital copies. Digitization of cultural heritage ensures preservation, remote access, interactivity and support for scientific research. Integration of the DZI structure with web tools forms the basis for digital museums, educational platforms and innovations in restoration practice.
